Breakfast and Lunch in New Orleans
Satsuma
also two locations! Uptown and Bywater. Deciding to give up the hotlinking after one entry. Sry. The uptown location menu is a little more ‘new yorkified’ I feel because of all the tulane girls eating avo, egg and cheese sandwiches with a little sriracha. But i like avo egg and cheese sandwiches too so I’m not mad. Great place to get something healthy-ish in the middle of a fried food and alcohol bender. (Satsuma)
High Hat
Freret + Jena Street. I’m looking at the menu now because i needed to see how to spell Freret and now I’m desperately craving the fried broccoli we had here. But it’s not on the menu so maybe it was a special at the time? Unclear. But great spot to sit and grab a nice catfish po boy for all your non-shellfish eating needs - sometimes can be hard to find!! (High Hat)
Dat Dog
my favorite thing that emmy would never eat with me :( I’ve honestly only had it once at crawfest (as fihma cut the line to get food as the main squeeze’s personal assistant) but every time we pass the magazine street location i stare at it longingly and consider pulling off an epic Louie CK Bang Bang. (3 Locations!)
Cowbell
Felt far but tasty. I can’t remember what I ate exactly but I know I liked it. TYSM foursquare history for jogging my memory. Throwing it on here for good measure (Y).
Turkey and the Wolf
This is off magazine! Was bon appetit’s number one new restaurant of 2017 and it definitely lived up to our expectations. The fried baloney sandwich was the best thing we tried, along with both the cabbage and wedge salads. The deviled eggs are also to die for! Fear not for vegetarian friends, the collard greens sandwich was surprisingly tasty!
MOTHER'S
Beyonce went here. So did we. I thought it was just ok, but i’m not a big ham eater so maybe i missed out on the hype? There’s always a line out the door, so build in an extra half hour if you’re up for it. Very CLASSIQUE nola.
willie mae's scotch house
the best fried chicken EVER!! This restaurant is in the Treme neighborhood and is definitely on the more casual side. But the chicken was sooo crispy yet *moist* it’s worth the trek. There is always a line, so do as we did and get there when it opens at 10. Yes we had fried chicken and mac and cheese for breakfast. Yes i would do it again.
